Many of Majeed Amjad's (1914-1974) Early Poems, written between 1930 to 1958 remain unpublished half a century after his passing away in a small one-room house with a small yard in Fareed Town, Sahiwal Pakistan.
These poems remained in the attic of the Lahore Cantonment residence of Urdu critic Dr Khawaja Mohammad Zikriya for 40 years! From 2010 to 2019, I wrote two letters to Dr. Zikriya, emailed and talked a few times to his son Fawad Zikriya and telephoned Dr. Zikriya and spoke to him many times. I offered to upload all unpublished Early Poems of Majeed Amjad on my web site Dareechah but he always refused.
Up to 2018, Dr. Zikriya always insisted that he had saved these Early Poems up to now and he was entitled to publish them. In my phone call to Dr. Zikriya in late 2019, Dr. Zikriya said he had given away/handed over all Early Poems of Majeed Amjad to some niece of Majeed Amjad. This handing over was not done in a public gathering in front of a few hundred literati, as would have been expected for such a literary treasure. Also, Dr. Zikriya did not insist on any written/signed guarantee from this unnamed niece of Majeed Ajmad that she would publish these poems!
