Pavitra Paapee (Pure Souled Sinner) is a modern Punjabi language novel, written by Nanak Singh, a writer from Indian Punjab.
The novel tells the story of Kedar, a jobless graduate who arrives in a small Punjabi town in East Punjab (Indian Punjab). His life gets entwined with that of an old watch repairman who can barely hold onto his job with his failing eyesight. The old watch repairman is fired by his boss and the young graduate who knows about watch repairs (since his Dad was a watch repairer) is hired. The old guy cannot cope with this turn of events and decides to run away and commit suicide. The man's family turns up at the shop when he goes missing. Kedar feels guilty of destroying another man's life ... this guilt forces him to take care of this family's problems which enmeshes his own life with that of this family and leads to more sorrow ...
