Saifuddin Saif (1922-1993)
A brilliant modern Urdu poet of Pakistan, Mohtaram Saifuddin Saif excelled in Urdu Ghazal, Urdu Songs as well as Urdu Poems and Long Poems. He was born in Amritsar, British India which during his school and college days was the abode of many famous Urdu writers and poets and creative people (Saadat Hasan Manto, Soofi Tabassum, Zaheer Kashmiri, Ahmed Rahi, A. Hameed just to name a few).
He was an instant hit in Poetry Readings in Amritsar and later, after the 1947 Partition of British India, in his chosen country of Pakistan where he lived for the rest of his life. In the 1950s he produced and also wrote songs for Pakistani movies. These Urdu songs were sung by the top singers of Pakistan and became instantly popular via the Pakistani Cinema as well as Radio Pakistan and record albums by EMI and others.
His poetry collections include
"Kham e Kakul" and
"Kaf e Gul Farosh"
and both have been lovingly published by Mohtaram Safdar Husain of Al-Hamd Publications, Lake Road, Lahore, Pakistan.
