I hope to showcase some important Fiction Writers from the Developed Word (Europe, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and Britain) in this section of Dareechah.
The John Updike tetrology of novels is written in a style based on compact sentences, wonderfully crafted, with not a word wasted. The sentences convey a whole spectrum of emotions vividly . . . many paragraphs moved me immensely . . . the tetrology of novels begins with Rabbit, Run (set in the America of 1959) where the main character, Harry Angstrom nicknamed Rabbit by his high school buddies, sets out one night to pick up his 3-year old son from his parents' home but instead keeps on driving out of his home town and essentially walks out on his son and wife pregnant with their second child . . . The next three novels . . . Rabbit, Redux (set in the America of 1969), Rabbit is Rich (set in 1979) and Rabbit at Rest (set in 1989) describe events in Harry Angstrom's (aka Rabbit's) life . . . This tetrology of novels by John Updike is a portrait of America from 1959 to 1989 . . . I am reading it during my 1 hour daily commute (one bus and two trains) to and from work . . .
