Syed Asif Shahkar is a Pakistani Punjabi poet who currently resides in Stockholm, Sweden.
Syed Asif Shahkar completed his early schooling from Government High School, Harappa City, Punjab, Pakistan. He did his Intermediate exam from M.A.O. College, Lahore and his B.A. from Government Islamia College, Civil Lines, Lahore. He completed his Masters from University of the Punjab, Lahore. He joined Pakistan Television Corporation as a Producer/Director. He later emigrated to Sweden where he served in the Department of Education, Stockholm as well as working as a Lay Judge in the Swedish High Court, Stockholm. He is currently self-employed. He has been writing Punjabi poems for a long time.
Syed Asif Shahkar maintains an active facebook account as well as a YouTube channel. His Punjabi poem entitled "Mishaal Khan laee" may be watched as a video on his YouTube channel.
In April, 2017, an unruly fanatical mob, incited into anger by right wing Islamic political groups, falsely accused a young student Mishaal Khan of Wali Khan University, Mardan, Pakhtoon Khwa Province, Pakistan of insulting Islam. The mob killed Mishaal Khan although police was present on the campus at the time. A high profile case ensued. Syed Asif Shahkar wrote a Punjabi poem about the martyrdom of Mishaal Khan which is copied here on the pages of Dareechah literary web site.
