Sahir Ludhianvi (1921-1980) wrote beautiful, soulful Urdu songs for Bombay's movie industry. Some of his songs highlight emotional turning points in his own life which makes them doubly impressive. He had command of an effective Urdu diction which placed his lyrics in a category of their own.

Yeh koochay yeh neelaam ghar dil kashee kay !!
Sahir wrote this rebel anthem as one of his many contributions to the Urdu Progressive Writers Movement which galvanized Urdu writers and poets in India and Pakistan. He wrote this song to protest the plight of female sex workers in the brothels spread all over India and Pakistan. He was outraged that independence from British colonial rule had not broken the shackles of the poor and downtrodden Indian & Pakistani people and many poor women had to resort to becoming sex workers. This song is also a literary master piece and became part of the Urdu literature syllabus in educational institutions all over Pakistan. From the revolutionary pen of Sahir Ludhianvi for the block buster hit movie "Pyaasa" partly based on Sahir's own life events.
