Shakaib Jalali (1934 - 1966) was a modern Urdu poet from Pakistan who wrote Urdu ghazals with a modern era sensibility.
He was born in British India in a small town named Jalali near famous Aligarh. His mother died when he was just 10 years old. His father lost his mental balance due to this tragedy and also died a few years later. Shakaib passed his high school exam in 1950 from the Indian town of Badayoon and migrated to Pakistan.
In Pakistan, he passed his Intermediate or F.A. exam from Sialkot and graduated with a B.A. Honors degree from Lahore. He started working as a tutor to earn money for his M.A. courses but was not able to take the M.A. examination due to financial reasons.
He launched a literary magazine from Rawalpindi named "Goonj" in partnership with a friend but this was not successful. He returned to Lahore and worked for some other literary journals (Shaahkaar, Wahdat, Javaid) and later as a journalist for "Maghribi Pakistan" and "Mashriq" as well. He joined the Thal Development Authority and served in Bhakkar, near Sargodha.
Due to some psychological problems which he was facing, he committed suicide at the age of 32 in Sargodha in 1966. His collected works were published posthumously, first as "Roshnee Ai Roshnee" and later as "Kulliyaat e Shakaib Jalali" by Sang e Meel Publications, Lahore.
