sung to perfection by Farida Khanum during the early 1990s via Pakistan Television broadcasts.

After returning to British India in 1935, Dr. Imdad Husain started his career as a Lecturer of English Literature at the post-graduate level at the famed Government College, Lahore and taught there for many years.
After the partition of British India in 1947, Dr. Imdad Husain joined the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan and was posted as Educational and Cultural Attache in the Pakistani Consulate Generals/Embassies in Washington D.C. USA as well as in London, UK. He later became Professor Emeritus of English Literature at Punjab University and also served as a Member of the Public Service Commission of Pakistan.
After his retirement he published a book entitled “An Introduction to the Poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz” in 1989 via Vanguard Books, Lahore. He also wrote articles on cultural matters in newspapers and magazines.
The Vanguard Books description about Dr. Imdad Husain's 1989 book on Faiz's poetry states:
FAIZ AHMED FAIZ (1911-1984), poet, teacher, editor, freedom- fighter, dramatist, critic, progressive writer and Lenin Peace Prize recipient, was the author of eight collections of poems in Urdu and is considered one of the great poets of the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent. He was no mere ‘dreamer of dreams’. Great poets like Faiz are warriors and act as the conscience their times. Countries have frontiers but the war against slavery and exploitation has no frontier. Faiz espoused the cause of freedom in Pakistan, and for the peoples of the world. He ranks with poets like Pablo Neruda, Nizam Hikmat and Louis Aragon. His poetry, rich with the classical blood of Ghalib and Iqbal, acquired a characteristic hue and he excelled in both the nazm and ghazal form, blazing a trail of love and revolution. This is the first English language study to be published anywhere of the poetry of Faiz and a critical appreciation of his life and times.
Dr. Imdad Husain's wife Mrs. Haseena Imdad Husain was the daughter of Qazi Zahoor Hussain, Chief Engineer Railways in the pre partition days.
