Nasir Kazmi (1925 - 1972) was an iconic Modern Urdu Ghazal Poet. Born in Anbala, British India, to upper middle class parents, Nasir was fond of horse riding and long walks along the riverside. He migrated at the time of the Partition of British India in 1947 to Lahore along with his parents and a younger brother. He and his family were allotted two rooms of an old house in Old Anarkali, just off Church Road. He and his family resided there from 1947 to 1957. In the beginning, in 1947-48, Nasir applied for various jobs and got one in Sialkot. At that time, in May of 1949, he received news of his father's illness and rushed back to Lahore where his father passed away. Later that year, in September, 1949, his mother too passed away leaving Nasir to care for his younger brother. During the ten years stay in this Old Anarkali house, Nasir studied the Collected Works of Mir Taqi Mir in detail and compiled a selection of Mir's verse.
Nasir had attempted to start two literary magazines, Auraq e Nau and Khayal with his own money.
He later found a job as Staff Editor in Radio Pakistan, Lahore Studios in 1957. At that time, he moved to a nice flat in Krishan Nagar. His close friend and ghazal poet, Ahmed Mushtaq would come to Nasir's Krishan Nagar flat each morning from Gawal Mandi and the two friends would then leave for work together: Nasir to his Radio Station office on Abbott Road and Ahmed Mushtaq to his Standard Chartered Bank office on Mall Road, Lahore.
